At the Somali Youth Union in the Netherlands (SYUN), our purpose is clear: to empower the next generation of Somali youth to build successful, self-determined lives.
Our name reflects our commitment to union and collective progress. Through targeted goals and concrete actions, we turn this commitment into reality.
Our goal is to provide Somali youth, particularly those who have been unable to access formal education from primary to secondary school due to economic hardship or other circumstances, with the opportunity to learn practical skills.
The duration of this training program ranges from six months to one and a half years, depending on the student’s starting level.
Upon graduation of the first cohort, we are committed to creating immediate work opportunities. We will facilitate this by providing them with the necessary professional tools and assisting with workspace rental costs for the first three months, or longer if required.
This foundational support is designed to empower them to become self-sufficient and make positive contributions to their communities and society.
A core objective of our organization is to guide youth toward education and sustainable employment. This pathway helps prevent young people from engaging in dangerous activities such as smuggling, illicit behavior, or drug use, which are harmful to both themselves and others.
To achieve this mission, we need dedicated individuals who are willing to commit to this cause and collaborate with us as committee members. Therefore, we have decided to establish a membership program where supporters can contribute on a monthly or annual basis.
This initiative is our commitment to supporting the community we left behind, many of whom live in poverty. We invite you to support us and help turn this vision into a reality.
For the past 3 years, SYUN has been at the heart of community growth, delivering a dynamic portfolio of projects designed to create tangible, positive change.
Our core mission has been to actively foster the participation and integration of the Somali community, empowering them to thrive within Dutch society.
It all started with energy and movement: we launched futsal leagues for youth aged 17-23. This initiative did more than just promote physical health; it built unwavering team spirit and forged critical social bonds, turning a sports pitch into a platform for integration.
These events became more than just games; they became a foundational pillar where young people could connect, develop essential life skills, and grow together in a safe and encouraging environment.
