At the Somali Youth Union in the Netherlands (SYUN), we take a firm stand against the injustices of street harassment and ethnic profiling. We recognize the profound physical, emotional, and social harm these discriminatory practices cause. Our dedicated program is built on a three-pillar approach: Supporting Victims, Educating Communities, and Advocating for Change to create a safer, more just environment for all.
Public Awareness & Education
We lead targeted awareness campaigns to educate the public about the damaging effects of street harassment and ethnic profiling. Our campaigns challenge societal norms, empower bystanders to safely intervene, and foster a culture of zero tolerance for discrimination in all its forms.
Confidential Support & Empowerment
For those who have experienced these injustices, SYUN offers a safe haven. We provide confidential emotional support and counseling, clear legal guidance on your rights and how to report incidents and dedicated assistance in navigating official complaints with relevant authorities.
Skills-Building Workshops
Knowledge is power. Our interactive workshops equip community members, especially youth, with the skills to safely identify, confront, and respond to harassment and profiling. We partner with schools and local groups to build resilience and confidence from the ground up.
Strategic Advocacy for Policy Reform
SYUN actively advocates for stronger policies and accountability at both local and national levels. We work directly with lawmakers, police services, and civic leaders to push for concrete measures that systematically combat ethnic profiling and protect civil liberties.
Community Mobilization & Unity
We believe change happens through collective action. SYUN organizes community forums, open dialogues, and public events to build a powerful, united front against discrimination, fostering a shared sense of respect and belonging for everyone.
Evidence-Based Action
To ensure our work is effective, we conduct research and collect anonymized data on the prevalence of these issues within our community. This evidence allows us to tailor our interventions, measure our impact, and hold institutions accountable.
Building Strong Alliances
We strengthen our fight by building strategic partnerships with anti-discrimination organizations, human rights groups, and other institutions. By sharing resources and expertise, we amplify our voice and extend our reach.
You Have Rights. We Are Here to Help.
